The first glider with the competition number F has just landed at the airport so we are expecting other gliders to be here any minute. W outlanded in Prievidza.
There´s not much going on at the airport. Most of the people are just enjoying the sun and the nice weather. There is one PW5 above the airport training for the world competition. We can also see some model planes flying. Our competition pilots are still in the air, trying to do their best. Club class is heading towards their second turning point and 20M 2-seats are somewhere around Banska Bystrica on their way to the second turning point, Sliac, as we could see at the spot tracker.
All gliders are safely in the air. It took 1 hour and 5 minutes. Good job for more than 130 gliders and the first day of the competition:) The start line for the 15M class was opened at 13:00, for 20M and 2-seats at 13:10, open class at 13:34 and club class 13:17. The weather looks great, the sky is full of cumulus clouds.
The first glider is in the air. There is 11 towplanes available. 6 "Čmelak" Z37 and 5 small planes. The runway in use is runway 15.
The first launch was confirmed to 12:00.
The sun is shining and the first cumulus clouds appeared on the north. Everybody is impatiently waiting to see how will they do on the first day of the competition. Some pilots are a little nervous, some are just really excited.
Today´s briefing started with the formal invitation by the Nitra city mayor Mr. Jozef Dvonč and the secretary general of the Slovak National Aeroclub Mr. Anton Líška. Pilots received informations about the rules they need to follow in order to keep the safety both on the ground and in the air. The tasks are also set. For CLUB class and 15M class it is a polygon with two points. The task distance is 283,7 km for club class and 350,1 km for 15M class. Tasks for 20M 2-SEAT class and open class are polygons with three points with the total distance of 330,8 km and 402,4 km for open class. The launching is planned for 12:00 LOC. The rush has started and all pilots are getting their gliders ready for the flight. The weather looks very promising.
The frequences allocated to individual nations are available at Documents & Rules upper menu. We have tried to split the nations according to the total number of their pilots taking into account language similarities when possible. We believe there is a good and ballanced distribution of the pilots to the frequencies.
The results from yesterday´s task can be seen here: http://www.soaringspot.com/pc2010/results/
You can also follow the results during the whole competition on this webpage where the informations will be uploaded regularly.
We have woke up to the beautiful morning. The quick look at the weather maps gives us a good feeling. The runway in use will be 15. Club class will go to SW grid, other classes (15m, 20m Two Seat and Open) to NE grid. The briefing will be at 10:00 and the first launch is expected at 12:00.
