Recap of the Unofficial Training Days

As you have probably noticed, there has been some activity at the airfield over the last few days, however not worth of continuous updates on the web page. As in the most of Europe the weather is playing a game with us and "Lady Winter" does not want to leave. As a result we have got unusual snow fall three times during the last 7 day with obvious impact on operations and airfield surface. Fortunately the water drain system we have worked well and soon after it stopped and the snow melted we could fly. There has been a group of Austrian pilots for flying (or better to say training) camp and they have been lucky enough to get airborne three times, ones with nice wave system behind Zobor. The most of them left before the snow fall as the forecast was quite obvious, but despite of that they told us the camp achieved the set objectives. Happy to hear that having in mind the weather they had. Later during the week pilots were arriving one by one and in the end there were some 30 to 40 gliders present. Most of them have taken a long journey e.g. from Spain, Denmark or UK. It is worth of respect in regard to unfavourable conditions at the time. Finally on Thursday we have managed to fly again with about 20 gliders in the air, mostly to test the instruments and systems after long winter break. The runway was all right even for the heavier two seat gliders all that just a day after the snow melted. Pilots reported good ridge conditions, but reduced visibility which led them to being cautious as the easy part of the ridge, as we call it, is not too large. In the end we saw happy faces browsing around the gliders despite of all that around :-)
